]

A news from Reliance has increased the tension of companies like Nestle, Godrej, Mars and Emami. Mukesh Ambani led Reliance is preparing to enter the pet food market. The special thing is that Reliance will sell its products much cheaper than other companies. If this happens, then a war like the Cola market may start in the pet food market as well. Let us tell you that Reliance had set the cold market on fire by launching Campa at a very low price.

How much will it be cheaper?

According to ET report, Reliance Consumer Products (RPCL) is preparing to create a stir in the pet food market with its brand Waggies. The company has told its distributors that its products can be 20% to 50% cheaper than other companies. RPCL will also make its pet food available at general stores to make it easily accessible to the people. At present, this market is dominated by foreign brands like Pedigree. Pedigree is a brand of the American company Mars Petcare.

How big is the market?

India’s petcare market is growing rapidly. A report by Redseer Strategy Consultants states that this market is expected to reach $7 billion by 2028, which is currently $3.5 billion. According to the report, the number of pets in Indian households is expected to increase from 26 million in 2019 to 32 million in 2024. Apart from this, people on a large scale also buy dog food to feed the dogs living on the streets.

Who will compete?

In the pet food market, Reliance will compete with Pedigree as well as brands like Purnia, Royal Canin, Drools, Ninja and Heads Up For Tails. Purnia is a brand of Nestle, while Royal Canin is a French company. Drools is a brand of IB Group and has made its mark on the market in recent times. Heads Up for Tails is a Gurugram-based company founded in 2008 by Rashi Narang. Emami is also present in this market. The company holds 30% stake in Canis Lupus Services India. Its dog food brand is Fur Ball Story. Whereas Godrej sells dog food under the name Ninja.
