Hayrider sales take a big turn, Toyota Innova lags behind

]

Mumbai : Toyota’s mid-size SUV urban cruiser Hayrider did what was expected for a long time in October 2025. Hayrider emerged as Toyota’s number-1 selling car for the first time, beating Innova HiCross and Innova Crysta, which are considered a symbol of the company’s strength. This change is not only a new achievement for Toyota, but also an important indicator of the changing customer trends in the Indian market. A new chapter of record-breaking sales: In October 2025, Hayrider set a record for its highest ever monthly delivery by registering sales of 11,555 units.

On the other hand, combined sales of Innova HiCross and Crysta stood at 11,294 units, which proved to be less than the Hayrider for the first time. With this growth, Hayrider not only strengthened its position but also showed that customers are now preferring mid-size, fuel-efficient SUVs over large-sized MPVs.
Launched in September 2022, Hayrider is continuously moving its graph up. The way the previous record of 9,100 units in August 2025 was surpassed in October, it also increased the enthusiasm within the company. Due to its mileage capability of up to 28 kmpl, Hayrider is counted among the most fuel-efficient SUVs in India, and this has become a major reason for its popularity.
Innova still ahead in annual figures
Although the Hayrider has taken the lead and grabbed the headlines in October, the Innova still has a strong hold on the overall sales figures for the financial year.
A total of 64,678 units of Innova HiCross and Crysta were sold between April and October 2025, reflecting its enduring popularity in the segment. During the same period, Hayrider sold 56,754 units, a sharp jump of 57 percent. The gap may have reduced now, but the difference of around 7,924 units suggests that competition may become more intense in the coming months.
Price and segment: Why customers are liking Hayrider
Price and product placement also play an important role in this competition. The Hayrider is a 5-seater SUV, priced between Rs 10.95 lakh to Rs 19.57 lakh, making it a strong option in the mid-size category. On the other hand, Innova HiCross prices go from Rs 18.06 lakh to Rs 31.90 lakh, while the Crysta is available between Rs 19.99 lakh to Rs 27.08 lakh.
A very low price, better mileage, hybrid option and a size suitable for urban use – all these are making the Hayrider a popular choice for a wide range of customers.
