New Delhi . Suzuki showcased its Compressed Biogas (CBG) initiative at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. The objective of this demonstration is to create eco-friendly mobility solutions through recycling of biogas in India. Under this initiative, the company has introduced the new Victoris model. This model is larger in size and comes with CNG/CBG powertrain. In this, the gas tank has been placed under the floor, which increases the boot space.
The Victoris CBG measures 4,360 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width and 1,655 mm in height. CNG and CBG are both compressed methane gas, but their sources are different. While CNG is a non-renewable fossil fuel, CBG is a renewable gas made from organic materials such as agricultural residues, cow dung and garbage. For this reason, CBG is being considered a more sustainable and carbon-neutral option for the environment. The Victoris is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder K15 engine, which has been technologically upgraded for cleaner combustion of biogas. The mileage of its manual version is stated to be 21.18 km/liter and that of the automatic version is 21.06 km/liter, while the all-wheel-drive variant gives 19.07 km/liter.
Apart from this, it will also be available with a 1.5-litre strong-hybrid setup sourced from Toyota, which gives a mileage of up to 28.56 km/litre. The S-CNG version generates 89 horsepower and its ex-showroom price starts at Rs 10.50 lakh. It is known that due to abundance of agricultural and dairy waste in India, it has great strategic importance. Currently, no passenger vehicle in the country comes with a CBG powertrain, but Suzuki is taking steps towards changing that. The company has invested Rs 450 crore in renewable energy, which also includes a biogas plant.
