Business: Tata Trust, the largest shareholder of Tata Group, the country’s largest multinational company, has re-appointed Venu Srinivasan as life trustee. Let us tell you that Srinivasan’s tenure was ending two days later on October 23. According to the information, the re-appointment of Venu Srinivasan has been done after a unanimous resolution passed by the Trusts on October 17, 2024, in which it was said that ‘after the tenure of a trustee is over, that trustee will be re-appointed by the concerned trust for lifetime.’ Now, according to the same rule, the re-appointment of the second trustee Mehli Mistry is also going to happen in the next few days.

Trustees took unanimous decision
The decision to appoint Venu Srinivasan as life trustee was taken unanimously by the trustees of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Sir Ratan Tata Trust. His appointment has come at a time when there is a lot of tussle going on among the organizations associated with Tata and it seems divided into two parts. In which one side is with Noel Tata and the other is with the people supporting former chairman Ratan Tata.

Know about Venu Srinivasan
Born on 11 December in Chennai, Venu Srinivasan is the grandson of TVS founder, TV Sundaram Iyengar. He has studied Mechanical Engineering from Anna University and MS in Management from Purdue University. He has also received honorary doctorates from Purdue, Warwick and IIT Kharagpur. Venu Srinivasan has been awarded the JRD Tata Leadership Award in 2004, Padma Shri in 2010, Padma Bhushan in 2020. Venu Srinivasan’s appointment as a lifetime trustee means his tenure will never expire. This decision comes after the lifetime appointment of Trustee and Chairman Noel Tata in January 2025.

What is the whole controversy of Tata Group?
The controversy arose out of a meeting held on September 11, in which the re-appointment of former Defense Secretary Vijay Singh as a nominee director on the board of Tata Sons was to be discussed. But he did not come to the meeting. After the death of Ratan Tata, the Trusts had decided that the directors nominated on the Tata Sons board will have to be re-appointed every year after the age of 75 years. Vijay Singh was playing this role since 2012.

This proposal for re-appointment was put forward by Noel Tata and Venu Srinivasan. But the remaining four people – Mehli Mistry, Pramit Jhaveri, Jahangir HC Jahangir and Darius Khambata flatly refused and due to numerical strength the proposal was cancelled. After this he tried to propose Mehli Mistry as a nominee on the Tata Sons board. But Noel Tata and Srinivasan stopped it. As soon as this meeting ended, Vijay Singh himself resigned from the Tata Sons board.
